To view the models, click the ‘play’ button on the viewer pane image and wait for the model to load (this may take a few seconds). Using your mouse, ‘left click and drag’ to move the object around and view it from all angles. You can reposition the object using ‘right click and drag’. To enlarge the object to full-screen, simply click on the expansion button at the bottom right-hand corner of the viewer.
Take a digital tour
At the bottom of the viewer pane are the annotation arrows. Click on these to take a pre-programmed ‘virtual tour’ designed to explore the emotional and 3D material properties of the object. If you’d like to view the model without visible annotation anchors, click on ‘settings’ => ‘annotations’ => then ‘hidden’.
View in virtual reality
You can also view objects in virtual reality using the Google Cardboard viewer and your mobile phone. Ensure that your phone is enabled for Google Cardboard (Android phones require version 4.1 or higher, iOS phones require version 8.0 or higher), and view the object online using the “view in VR button” on the viewer screen. 3D print from Emotions3D
Some of the Emotions3D models are marked as fully 3D printable. Follow the Sketchfab link at the top left-hand corner of the viewer to open the model on the Sketchfab website. From here, you can download the mesh and texture files (.obj and .stl format), and 3D print at home, school or university. Commercial printers such as Shapeways can render objects in full colour and a variety of customisable textures.
A note on loading times
The models in the Emotions3D collection have been built and uploaded in high resolution for reproduction accuracy, while still maintaining their online usability. As such, they make take a few seconds to load fully. Please don’t be alarmed if they appear in low-resolution when you first open the viewer.
